Large snowpacks out west mean big water

Just arrived in Idaho with John Grace of LVM fame in time to pick up Adriene at the airport. She had arrived the day before (we were a day late) and had to get a motel room for a day. We immediately drove up Cascade where we were to meet Fred Correll, Tristan McClaren, Ryan Casy for an overnighter on the South Salmon and then connect with the Main Salmon... The South Salmon was running 10,000cfs and the Main was running 90,000 cfs... they had just gotten off the river (they paddled 48 miles in 2 hours on the Main Salmon) and told me stories of how the South Salmon reminded them of the Stikene River... thats all I needed to know... at 51 years old I do not want any part of that. They packed up and headed off and I went back to Boise to visit with my friends Stan and Jo who own Idaho River Sports. Their shop is located in town and is a short walk to the river where a beautiful wave (the river was running high). This is also the location of the proposed Whitewater Park that should be finished in 1-2 years. Oh I almost forgot... I checked out the North Fork of the Payette, the dam was shut off and it still had 3000 cfs, I gotta tell ya after seeing how big, fast and long the rapids were I immediately called Shane at the office in North Carolina and said OK the Green River is not class V .... The North Fork IS class V. Looking at if from the bank the first thought is geezeuschrist if I swim on any of these rapids I could definitely drown.... the rapid go on and on with no break in the action (honestly for an eastern boater and one that is 51 this is scare as shit looking). The lower 5 miles is definitely a doable section and I'll post something about that run as soon as I can.
